Course Description:

Senior Seminar is a mandatory capstone course for all senior students at Loyalsock Township High School. The main focus of Senior Seminar is to prepare students for their own postsecondary opportunity.   In Senior Seminar, students will explore and thoroughly plan and prepare for life after high school. Students will participate in every phase of college preparation such as researching and matching appropriate colleges, writing personal statements, submitting applications, preparing financial aid forms, and applying for scholarships.  Students whose goals do not include a university pathway will conduct similar work in preparing for life after high school such as exploring branches of the military or career fields not requiring postsecondary education.

In the second phase of Senior Seminar, students will continue exploring careers and other post-secondary options. During this segment of coursework, students will write final high school resumes, work on interview skills, and compete for a job in a mock interview process involving actual local leaders in various industries.  Students will also be required to experience an extended job shadow for a minimum of 5 hours in order to either solidify or modify future career plans.

The final experience students will partake in Senior Seminar is a recap of their academic and cultural experiences through a portfolio and an application to graduate from Loyalsock Township High School.
